ASIP developed a Petition: Commitment to Science, which was available for signature either during the ASIP 2017 Annual Meeting at Experimental Biology (April 22- 26, 2017) or online. In all, 90 hard-copy signatures and 111 electronic (online) signatures were obtained. After removing duplicates, 180 individual scientists signed the petition.

We, the undersigned, affirm our support for the following core principles:

  • Federally-funded basic research has made and continues to make important contributions to our nation’s health, economy, and defense.
  • Scientific research should be ethical, transparent, and conducted with intellectual rigor.
  • Open discussion of scientific methods and scientific findings should be encouraged, both among scientists and with the broader public.
  • Science is a global effort that crosses national borders.
